Recipe: Mango infused water with basil & lime

Here’s an innovative way to enjoy your mangoes. You’re never going to realise how much you’ll like this mango infused water with basil & lime, until you finish up a glass of it in one go!

The freshness of the basil rightfully cuts across the tanginess from the raw mango and the lime to leave a balanced and satisfying taste. But the best part? The flush of good vitamins and minerals you end up feeding your body with. 

It feels great to take care of your body this way, it’s hoogah in its most basic form! So make this ridiculously easy mango infused water, and get going.

Mango + Basil + Lime Infused Water

Ingredients

FOR INFUSED WATER

  • 1 Raw Mango
  • 1 Lime
  • 1 bunch Basil (leaves)
  • 1 ltr Water

FOR GARNISH

  • 2-3 Lime (pieces, thinly sliced)
  • 2-3 Basil (leaves )
  • 1-2 pieces Raw Mango (cut into thin wedges)

Instructions

CHOOSE FRESH & ORGANIC

  • Fruits are generally waxed or sprayed with chemicals  
  • We would often use the whole fruit for the infusion  
  • Hence, always invest in high quality, organic fruits & herbs

CLEAN WELL BEFORE USE

  • Clean the raw mango and lime under cold water, lightly scrub it using a brush / hands
  • Dry them with clean towels or paper cloth  
  • Wash basil leaves with cold water. Gently press them against paper towels and dry them.

PREP THE RAW MANGO

  • Cut the stalk of the raw mango first,
  • Roughly cut into long thin pieces along with the skin
  • You can remove as much flesh from the seed and discard the seed away

PREP THE LIME

  • Cut the lime into half, and then slice them into thin pieces
  • You can cut them into different shapes like wedges as well

PREP THE HERBS

  • Basil leaves are pretty fragrant herb, tie couple of leaves together using a thread
  • This will help in keeping leaves intact inside water and not scatter
  • To get instant flavour, scrunch up couple leaves using your palm and drop it in

MAKE THE FRUIT INFUSION

  • In a large glass pitcher, place around 2-3 lime rounds and 5-6 raw mango pieces  
  • Add the tied bunch of basil leaves
  • Pour one-liter water in the glass jug  
  • Refrigerate the infused water for min 30 minutes (atleast), before consuming  
  • If you don’t like having your water chilled, then leave the jug at room temperature  
  • If using infused water bottle, the water will infuse quickly. Add some ice cubes and enjoy. Keep refilling them through the day  

GARNISH SUGGESTIONS

  • You can add cut raw mango pieces into the glass as you serve
  • Drop in couple of basil leaves as well to add extra flavour
  • Cut a small slit in the lime slice and place it on the rim to fancy your drink!

  • You can even carry these delicious  mango infused water bottles to your out door picnic!

  • Use a drop of stevia to add a little bit of sweetness, but remember to keep it healthy 

  • 1/2 teaspoon of lime zest is optional if you like the tart flavour

  • Adding a couple spoons of lime juice will enhance the flavour   

  •  Try these combinations with raw mango infused water-  ginger, lemongrass and fresh mint

  • Drinking apple infused water will help in dehydration and protects you from heat during summer

  • Basil is a delicious herb and when infused will act as a natural antibiotic herb 

  • Drinking this detox water will help in flushing out any toxins from the body 

  • Good for curing stomach problems 

  • You can refill water throughout day and let sit 30 minutes minimum

  • At the end of the day you can either eat the fruit or toss out 

  • Fresh basil can last up to 12 hours  

  • If you want to keep it longer, remove the raw mango, lime & basil after several hours and add a lid to the pitcher.  

  • Keep a bottle of chilled water ready for infusion or keep some ice 

  • Squeeze lime to have some concentration ready to speed up your infusion  

  • Wash all your ingredients ahead and keep it ready for infusion

  • Keep the basil leaves tied up in a bunch 

  • Cut all your garnishes ahead-washed and place it in a bowl, covered & refrigerated

  • Best served chilled (recommended) or with ice cubes

  • If using outdoors, place the glass pitcher in an ice bath

  • Use glass pitchers with lids that will help you strain out the infusions 

  • Use everyday water glasses or balloon shaped water glasses to serve.

  • Refrigerate the infused water in glass bottles or jars itself for easy consumption 

  • Always cover the infused water with a lid

  • If open pitcher, use a cling film. This will help avoid any residual smells into the infused water from the refrigerator 

  • Remove lime rind after 4 or more hours so that it does not give in bitterness 

  • Add garnishes just before service
