Don’t be fooled by the name! Dark & Stormy is a Rum cocktail that only looks dark, but tastes anything but. The ginger beer takes the bitterness out of Rum, for the most part. What comes out of this, is a delicious cocktail ready for admirers! It’s a classic for good reason after all.

The islands of Bermuda hold claim to inventing the Dark & Stormy. Even to this day, the cocktail is as good as the unofficial drink of the country, along with that of the larger boating community. The name on the other hand, is attributed to an old sailor who equated the drink’s colour to that of storm clouds. Since its invention in the 1800s, the drink has found a place in bars worldwide.

Two empty glasses filled with ice cubes are kept on an oval woodpiece. Behind it are two bottles - one big black one and one small pink one.

The best glass to enjoy this dark & stormy cocktail in, is a tall one, like the Tom Collins. Why? Well, you need a lot of ginger beer to offset the taste of rum, which would only be possible when you’re using a tall glass. Not to forget, the ice balances it all so well. So you’ll have to fill it all the UP!

Maybe a Christmas party special? Your friends wouldn’t mind at all! Check out the recipe below, and whip up this classic.
